The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified healthcare providers and patients that dronedarone (brand name: Multaq®) increases the risk of severe liver damage, including acute liver failure, Jan. 14, 2011. The FDA says it issued the alert after receiving reports of severe liver damage, including two cases of acute liver failure that required transplantation. Both patients were treated with Multaq® for less than six months.

The FDA says it will add a warning to the drug’s label to warn patients about the potential liver side effects. Symptoms of liver damage can include loss of appetite, itching, yellowing of the eyes and/or skin, dark urine, and light-colored stools.

If you or a loved one is taking Multaq®, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of liver failure. Liver failure is very dangerous and can lead to other conditions, including kidney failure and death.

If you have been treated with Multaq® and have suffered liver failure, we may be able to help you seek compensation for your injuries and loss. Recoverable compensation might include medical bills, cost of liver transplantation, long-term treatment costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Only a qualified liver injury attorney can get you the compensation you deserve.
